I know the title of the series, Vampire Academy, is a little cheesy, but I assure you, if you liked Twilight and you enjoy vampire books you will love this series.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is one of my favorites out of all Vampire Books for Teens. It is definitely geared more toward the younger reader, but Mom's love it too. I say that from personal experience, I am not a teen, and I enjoyed this series thoroughly. Actually I steal the books from my teens and read them after they are done reading the books themselves.
The main Character Rose is both funny and sarcastic (just like any teenager I know). We watch her grow through the books as she struggles to find herself in a world where a lot is expected of her.
Rose's Job as a Guardian is to protect Lissa, her best friend and charge. But first she must learn the correct skills. She needs to be able to protect Lissa and fight off the evil vampires called Strigori.
She learns about the difficulty of finding love when the person she truly wants to be with is her mentor, Dimitri. Although he wants to, Dimitri is not allowed to love her back. But he does love her which makes it so much more difficult.
Vampire Academy Books have both good and evil vampires. It's a romantic vampire series that is funny, yet heart warming. It also is about integrity and about keeping promises made. You learn that sometimes you have to break the rules to do whats right. This book is about finding yourself and your real purpose.
I The Vampire Academy books very addictive. Fortunately, we have the entire collection of books including Last Sacrifice which is now available just in time for Christmas.

It seems this niche has a lot of legs to it. The Twilight phenomenon has benefitted from the attractive stars of its movies, but the success of Vampire Academy is solely on the strength of the writing.
I am a huge fan of young adult books. My favorites are by Lois Lowry. I will have to look these up after I finish reading the Hunger Games.

I love all of Richelle Mead's books. I just joined hub and started doing book reviews. My first is on Succubus blues, another great series of hers, which is not meant for the younger crowd.
