Tom, my best advise is to be positive and only respond to positiveness. Ignore the whining and complaining and try to separate yourself. If you don't give them any of your energy, they will eventually find someone else to drain.
Is it possible to simply say "no?" I feel people trying to draw energy and I reject... I am in "charge."
